Fairfax City, Virginia Bats love Historic Homes

Bats love the old, historic homes that dot Fairfax County, Virginia. Gables and dormers, siding and vents all provide access for bats that might otherwise seek caves, but have no problem occupying an attic. That is where our bat removal services come in.

Bats are important to the ecology and health of Virginia. All of the 15 or so species of bat found here are insect eaters. Bats eat more night-flying insects than any other predator. Without the help of bats, Virginia would be a much buggier place.

Too bad the critters love old homes nearly as much as they love bugs. Single animals or even substantial colonies will occupy homes, sneaking in and out through small cracks or vents. It doesn't take much. These critters can get through cracks as narrow as ¼-inch. Like the mice they resemble, if their head can get through, their entire body will fit. Our job is to provide complete bat removal for Virginia homeowners and then make modifications and maintenance that will prevent the animals from returning while preserving the historic appearance of the structure.

We have products and techniques that respect both animal and property owner. We understand that these animals are important and we plan each bat removal to ensure that the animals are not harmed and are able to exit the structure and seek a new roost with minimal trauma. We build custom venting devices when necessary for special situations. Even large colonies can be relocated safely.

Once the animals are out, no bat removal is complete until we take steps to ensure they do not return.

Consider the home of Doug and Naomi. The have a nearly 200 year old home with a serious bat problem. There were over 100 members of the colony living in their attic. They had tried to stop the animals from coming in and out, but there were too many access points available and they were afraid of trapping animals inside. We were able to get rid of the bats and provide or recommend repairs that would keep it from happening again. They were very happy with their bat removal and referred us to a friend with a similar problem. We appreciate their referral and were glad that they were pleased to have their home to themselves again.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Fairfax City and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

For pigeon and bird control, bat removal, or relief from other pest animals, call our wildlife management experts. Many nuisance wildlife companies offer critter capture and control; our wildlife operators provide professional pest wild animal management. We remove the following AND MORE:

Busy as a swallow in Fairfax City, VA

You have heard about "busy as a bee" but what about "busy as a swallow"? I have seen bees looking a little lazy—just wandering from flower to flower and getting their share of nectar. But, I have never seen a swallow that was anything but VERY busy, which brings me to my point: swallow control is necessary because these birds won't stop on their own.

At first I just wondered what the birds were doing—flying here and there, swooping in and out. They were looking for a good nest site and found it: my porch. Next they started building a nest and bringing in mud and feathers and small twigs and grass and stuff. Of course, bits dropped everywhere and I wasn't at all sure I wanted a nest on my porch. So, I took a hose and washed the beginnings of the nest away, swept up the debris and thought that was it. But, I hadn't yet learned that you can't easily control swallows.

The next day, before 24 hours had passed, they had reconstructed what I had removed, plus more. That became a pattern for the next few weeks. They built. I removed. They built again. I removed again. You would think that the birds would get the message. It wasn't until later that it occurred to me that the birds probably felt the same way. "Doesn't this guy get the message? This is OUR nest." It took time, but I learned that do-it-yourself swallow control wasn't working for me. After all, there were two of them and only one of me. And, while I hate to admit it, they work a lot harder than I do.

I finally called for professional help. Guys who know all about swallow control came out and did very quickly and professionally what I had been messing around with for weeks. They know how to get rid of swallows, even very determined swallows. In fact, besides the birds themselves, the swallow control guys might be the best workers I know. These birds, and all sorts of other critters, sure keep them busy.
